John Simmons ASC
Born in Chicago, John Simmons is a photographer and Emmy-winning cinematographer, an artist who has been behind the lens since the mid-1960s. He has captured moments in history such as Black Panther Party meetings, the 1968 Democratic National Convention, and Civil Rights Era icons such as Rosa Parks, Nina Simone, and Angela Davis.
Through his candid storytelling, Simmons creates images that document various perspectives of Black identities and lived experiences, celebrating the unseen details and cross-cultural connections of our everyday.
